Accurascale has announced a new OO gauge model of a British Rail Class 50 diesel locomotive, built in BR blue livery and featuring DCC sound. The model is the third in Accurascale's English Electric (EE) six-axle trio, following the Class 55 and Class 37.

The Class 50 was a 2,700hp diesel-electric locomotive built by English Electric at Vulcan Foundry between 1967 and 1968. The class was delivered in BR corporate blue and gained the nickname 'Hoover' due to the sound created by the inertial filters. The locomotives were initially deployed on passenger and parcels services between Crewe and Glasgow, and later on freight work, including MGR coal operations.

The model features a highly detailed OO scale design, with a die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile wheels, and separately-applied etched metal and plastic detail parts. The model includes a working radiator fan, flange squeal sensor, and full lighting package, including preservation era oddballs. The model is DCC ready and can be factory-fitted with DCC sound, which includes a customised dual-speaker technology and hall sensor for flange squeal effect.

The Class 50 Alliance has supported Accurascale's development of the model, allowing them to visit their fleet at Kidderminster Diesel Depot on the Severn Valley Railway. The model includes a range of features that reflect the class's complex history, including optional multiple working equipment, missing handrails, and different bogie types.

The model will be available in a range of configurations, including preserved locomotives, and will be available in OO gauge with a minimum radius curve of 438mm. The model is expected to be a highly detailed and accurate representation of the Class 50, and is likely to be a popular addition to any OO gauge collection.
