Accurascale has announced a new OO gauge model of Class 50 diesel locomotive 'Rodney' in BR blue large logo livery, featuring a grey roof and orange cantrail stripe. This is the third model in the manufacturer's English Electric six-axle trio, following the Class 55 and Class 37 models.

The Class 50 was a class of 50 locomotives built by English Electric at Vulcan Foundry between 1967 and 1968. They were designed for 100mph operation and were initially used on passenger and parcels services between Crewe and Glasgow, as well as services to Blackpool, Liverpool, and Manchester. The class was later used on freight operations and was refurbished in the late 1970s to improve reliability.

The new Accurascale model features a highly detailed OO scale body, die-cast metal chassis, and RP25-110 profile OO wheels. It also includes separately-applied etched metal and plastic detail parts, interchangeably printed headcodes, and scale-sized snowploughs. The model is DCC-ready and features a five-pole motor, metal helical gearbox, and all-wheel drive and pickup.

The Class 50 has a long history, with the first withdrawals taking place in 1987 and the last locomotives being retired in 1994. However, seven of the class have returned to the main line, with five still active on Network Rail metals. The Accurascale model features a range of liveries and details, including preservation-era oddballs, making it a highly detailed and accurate representation of the class.
