Accurascale has announced the OO gauge Class 50, the third and final model in their iconic English Electric six-axle trio. The new locomotive is modelled on the BR blue livery of Class 50006 'Neptune', one of the 50 diesel-electric locomotives built by English Electric at Vulcan Foundry between 1967 and 1968. The Class 50 was a unique and popular locomotive, known for its distinctive sucking sound and its use on passenger and parcels services across the UK.

The Accurascale model is highly detailed and features a die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile OO wheels, and separately-applied etched metal and plastic detail parts. The model is DCC ready and features a range of lighting options, including directional lighting, red and white marker lights, and interior lighting. The model also features Accurascale's twin-speaker set up, working radiator fan, and flange squeal sensor.

The Class 50 was a complex locomotive, with a complicated mixed traffic design that made it prone to spares shortages and reliability issues. Despite this, the class developed a loyal following among enthusiasts, and many examples were preserved after withdrawal from service. Today, five Class 50s are still in operation on Network Rail metals, with several more undergoing restoration.

The Accurascale Class 50 is available to pre-order now, and features a range of optional details, including multiple working equipment, handrails, and radio equipment. The model is built to a high level of detail and accuracy, making it a must-have for any railway modeller.
