Manufacturer description

BR Class 50 - GWR Green - 50007 'Sir Edward Elgar' - Exclusive

Still controversial almost four decades after being repainted, 50007 was outshopped in Great Western Railway lined green with cast numbers and double arrow in February 1984 as part of the GW150 celebrations that were planned for the following year. At the same time, it lost its Hercules name in order to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of the composer Sir Edward Elgar – who had no connection with Brunel’s famous railway. Rumoured to be the first of a series of Class 50s renamed after famous people, the intense backlash put paid to any future rededications! Refreshed several times up until its final withdrawal in 1994 its livery subtly changed each time and our model represents the classic Network SouthEast 1988-91 period with full-length orange cantrail stripe.

Accurascale BR Class 50 – GWR green – 50007 ‘Sir Edward Elga r’ – Exclusive is a highly‑detailed OO‑scale model of the British Rail Class 50 locomotive, built to a 1:76.2 (OO) scale. The model represents the Network SouthEast livery of the 1988‑1991 period, featuring full‑length orange cantrail stripe and the original cast numbers and double arrow.

The kit includes a die‑cast metal chassis, RP25‑110 profile wheels with optional re‑gauging for P4/EM gauges, handcrafted etched metal and plastic detail parts (grab handles, steps, wipers, nameplates and crests), scale‑width wire handrails and interchangeable printed headcodes covering the first nine years of the class and the preservation era. Separate snowploughs, a fully detailed underframe, battery box, compressor and extensive pipework are supplied, together with sprung metal buffers, screw couplings and kinetic NEM coupler mounts.

Electrical and DCC features comprise DCC readiness with a PowerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power, optional factory‑fitted DCC sound, a separately powered radiator fan with variable speed, and a custom Accurathrash speaker system on sound‑fitted models. The locomotive uses a five‑pole motor with dual flywheels, a helical gearbox and all‑wheel drive, allowing a minimum scale top speed of 125 mph (200 km/h). Lighting is fully detailed, offering directional lights, switchable red and white marker lights with day/night settings, interior illumination and cab lighting that operates automatically on movement.

The model is suitable for use on minimum radius OO track of 438 mm (2nd radius set‑track). It was released in the wake of the revised GWR‑green livery applied to the real locomotive in February 1984 (02/02/1984) to mark the 50th anniversary of Sir Edward Elgar’s death, and it reflects the locomotive’s final withdrawal in 1994. The product is supplied as an exclusive, ready‑to‑assemble kit for hobbyists and collectors.
