Manufacturer description

BR Class 50 - GWR Green - 50007 'Sir Edward Elgar' - Exclusive
DCC Sound Fitted

Still controversial almost four decades after being repainted, 50007 was outshopped in Great Western Railway lined green with cast numbers and double arrow in February 1984 as part of the GW150 celebrations that were planned for the following year. At the same time, it lost its Hercules name in order to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of the composer Sir Edward Elgar – who had no connection with Brunel’s famous railway. Rumoured to be the first of a series of Class 50s renamed after famous people, the intense backlash put paid to any future rededications! Refreshed several times up until its final withdrawal in 1994 its livery subtly changed each time and our model represents the classic Network SouthEast 1988-91 period with full-length orange cantrail stripe.

Accurascale BR Class 50 – GWR green – 50007 “Sir Edward Elgar” – Exclusive – DCC sound fitted is a highly detailed OO‑scale (1:76.2) model of the British Rail Class 50 locomotive. It is supplied in the Great Western Railway lined green livery and carries the DCC sound package (ACC2239‑DCC). The model is built on a die‑cast metal chassis with all‑wheel power pickup and a Co‑Co wheel arrangement.

The prototype 50007 was repainted into GWR green in February 1984 (02/02/1984) to mark the 150th anniversary of the Great Western Railway, losing its “Hercules” name to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of composer Sir Edward Elgar. The model represents the classic Network SouthEast period of 1988‑1991, featuring the full‑length orange cantrail stripe.

Key specifications include a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (radius 2 set‑track), RP25‑110 profile OO wheels with conversion kits for P4/EM gauges, etched metal and plastic details such as grab handles, steps and wipers, scale‑width wire handrails, and interchangeable printed headcodes covering the first nine years of the class plus preservation era. Options for snow ploughs, full underframe tank, battery box, compressor detail and fully sprung metal buffers with screw couplings are provided.

Deluxe features comprise a separately powered radiator fan with speed settings, a PowerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power, and Accurathrash speaker technology including a large bass speaker and a hall sensor for flange squeal (on DCC sound fitted units). The model is DCC ready, with factory‑fitted DCC sound or optional DCC ready configuration.

Performance elements include a five‑pole motor with two flywheels, a helical gearbox and gearing to achieve a minimum scale top speed of 125 mph (200 km/h). Lighting is fully detailed, offering directional DC/DCC lighting, switchable red and white marker lights with day/night options, interior compartment illumination, and separate cab lighting with an auto/off movement sensor.
