Accurascale has announced a new OO gauge model of the Class 50 diesel locomotive in BR blue livery, with DCC sound. The model is a highly detailed representation of the locomotive, featuring a die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile wheels, and separately applied etched metal and plastic detail parts.

The model is based on a 3D laser scan of a real Class 50 locomotive and features a range of details, including a working radiator fan, flange squeal sensor, and full lighting package. The model also includes a range of optional features, such as multiple working equipment, missing handrails, and different headcode options.

The Class 50 was a series of 50 diesel locomotives built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry between 1967 and 1968. They were initially used for passenger and parcels services in the North of England, but were later transferred to the Western Region, where they were used for a variety of services, including freight and passenger work.

The class was known for its reliability issues, particularly with its generator and electrical equipment, which led to a major refurbishment programme in the late 1970s. The class continued in service until the 1990s, when they were gradually withdrawn and replaced by more modern locomotives.

Today, several Class 50 locomotives have been preserved and are still operational, with five currently in main line service. The Accurascale model is a highly detailed and accurate representation of this iconic locomotive, and is sure to be popular with model railway enthusiasts.
