Accurascale has announced a new OO gauge model of the Class 50 diesel locomotive in BR Blue Large Logo (with black roof) livery, featuring DCC sound. The model is a highly detailed representation of the iconic English Electric locomotive, with a minimum curve radius of 438mm and die-cast metal chassis.

The model is built to a scale of 1:76.2 and features a five-pole motor with two flywheels, metal helical gearbox, and all-wheel drive and pickup. It is also equipped with a working radiator fan, flange squeal sensor, and a fully detailed lighting pack, including directional lighting, marker lights, and interior lighting.

The model can be operated with or without DCC sound, and it features a customised dual-speaker technology, a hall sensor for flange squeal effect, and a wide range of operational features. The model also includes a full underframe tank, battery box, and compressor detail, as well as scale-sized and mounted snowploughs.

The Class 50 model is the third and final member of Accurascale's English Electric (EE) six-axle trio, following the Class 55 and Class 37 models. The Class 50 was a class of 50 diesel-electric locomotives built by English Electric at Vulcan Foundry between 1967 and 1968, and they were initially used on passenger and parcels services between Crewe and Glasgow.

The class developed a huge following in the late 1980s, and although they were eventually replaced by more modern locomotives, many of the Class 50s were preserved and are still operational today. The Accurascale model is a highly detailed and accurate representation of one of these locomotives, and it is expected to be a popular addition to any OO gauge model railway.
