Accurascale has announced a new OO gauge model of the British Rail Class 50 diesel locomotive in BR Blue Large Logo livery with a black roof. The model is a highly detailed representation of the Class 50, with a die-cast metal chassis and RP25-110 profile OO wheels. The locomotive features a range of separately-applied etched metal and plastic detail parts, including grab handles, steps, and wipers.

The model is DCC ready, with a 21-pin socket, and features a range of lighting options, including directional lighting, red and white marker lights, and separately switched cab lighting. The locomotive also features a working radiator fan and a range of other features, including a fully sprung buffer, super-fine pipework, and screw couplings.

The Class 50 was a class of 50 diesel-electric locomotives built by English Electric at Vulcan Foundry between 1967 and 1968. The class was introduced to the network in 1968 and was initially allocated to Crewe. They were later transferred to the Western Region and were used on a variety of passenger and parcels services.

The locomotives were known for their distinctive blue livery and were nicknamed "Hoovers" due to the sound of their twin inertial filters. The class underwent a major refurbishment in the late 1970s, which involved removing superfluous kit and resolving contamination issues.

The Accurascale model is the culmination of over three years of development, which included a 3D laser scan of No. 50017 at the Great Central Railway. The model features a range of changes experienced by the class, including multiple working equipment, missing handrails, and different lighting configurations.

The Class 50 has a rich history and has been preserved in several locations. Seven of the class have returned to the main line, with five still active on Network Rail metals. The Accurascale model is a highly detailed and accurate representation of this iconic locomotive class.
