The Heljan OO gauge Class 47 diesel locomotive is a highly detailed model of the British Rail Class 47, one of the most mass-produced locomotives in the BR fleet. This model, specifically the 'City of Hereford' Parcels Red/Grey locomotive, is a faithful representation of the real-life locomotive.

Built between 1962 and 1968, the Class 47 was designed and constructed by Brush Traction and British Rail Crewe Works. A total of 512 locomotives were produced for use in passenger services across the Western region of the UK. This particular model represents a locomotive from the Parcels sector and features a pristine finish.

The model boasts a powerful 5-pole, twin shaft motor and diecast metal chassis block, providing smooth running qualities. The OO gauge finescale wheels are painted to give a realistic appearance. The model has a minimum radius curve of 2nd radius (438mm) and features directional lighting and interior lighting. The running number is 47575.

The model is DCC ready, with a 21-pin socket for easy upgrade to digital control. The decoder is supplied by ESU, with authentic Class 47 sound projects provided by Legomanbiffo. The model features over 150 separate parts, including highly detailed bogies and underframe area, and separately applied metal detail parts.

The lighting functions on the model include directional headcode panel and tail lights, separately switchable cab interior lights, engine room lights, and tail lights. The model also features a playable braking function, 'Heavy Load' function, and authentic sound effects, including Spirax air dump valve, compressor, cooling fans, wipers, sanders, AWS bell and buzzer.

The model's decoration is minutely researched and applied, with multiple paint applications and logos, numerals, and text added using multi-stage tampo printing. The model is available in a range of liveries, each based on archive photos and comments from acknowledged Class 47 experts.
