The Heljan Class 47 D1526 model is a detailed OO gauge representation of the BR two-tone green diesel locomotive with a small yellow panel. The model features a 270mm length and is designed to operate on curves of radius 3 or greater.

The model's mechanical specifications include a powerful 5-pole, twin shaft motor with two brass flywheels, four-axle drive with a 'floating' middle axle, and a diecast metal chassis block. The precision gearboxes are arranged for prototypical running speeds and haulage capability. The model also features OO gauge finescale wheels with painted wheel faces, and detachable coupling pockets to NEM362 standards at both ends.

The detailing of the model is highly accurate, with features such as highly detailed bogies, an exquisitely detailed underframe area, and nine different cab end designs. The model also includes authentic ride height, original or 'cutaway' bufferbeam assemblies, body-mounted or bufferbeam-mounted ETH equipment, and single arm or pantograph windscreen wipers. The model has over 150 separate parts, including detailed pipework, handrails, and etched fan grilles.

The lighting functions on the model include directional headcode panel and tail lights, separately switchable cab interior lights, engine room lights, and tail lights. The model also features light engine mode, parking mode, train mode, and push-pull mode for ScotRail Class 47/7s. The authentic light colours are based on the era and application, and the lighting arrangements in DCC mode are supplied by DCC sound specialist Legomanbiffo.

The model is DCC ready and features a factory-fitted ESU LokSound V5 decoder, as well as authentic Class 47 sound projects supplied by Legomanbiffo. The model has up to 30 sound/light and control functions, including a playable braking function and 'heavy load' function for extra 'thrash'.

The model's sounds include two high-quality speakers encased in a bespoke sound enclosure, and 19 authentic sound functions, including a Spirax air dump valve, compressor, cooling fans, wipers, sanders, AWS bell and buzzer. The model also features a playable two-tone horn function, driver-guard communication beep for ScotRail Class 47/7, speed-dependent flange squeal, and speed-dependent detonator explosion.

The decoration on the model is minutely researched and applied, with liveries based on archive photos and comments provided by acknowledged Class 47 experts. The model features multiple paint applications, logos, numerals, and text added as appropriate using multi-stage tampo printing. The painted wheel faces eliminate the toy-like shiny effect of chemically blackened wheels, and the colours are based on official BR and train operator paint references and painting instructions.
