The Class 15 diesel locomotive was designed by British Thomson-Houston and built between 1957 and 1961 by Yorkshire Engine Company and the Clayton Equipment Company. 44 of these locomotives were built in this class and mostly used for freight traffic. These locomotives were withdrawn from service between 1968 and 1971.

Heljan Class 15 D8242 is a 00 gauge model of a British Rail Class 15 diesel locomotive in a BR green livery with the late crest. The kit is DCC ready with an 8‑pin socket, includes directional lighting, and uses power pickup from all wheels. It measures 165 mm in length and is equipped with NEM couplings, a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement and a minimum curve radius of 2nd radius (438 mm). The locomotive carries the running number D8242 and the manufacturer part number 1512.

The prototype locomotives were designed by British Thomson‑Houston and built between 1957 and 1961 by the Yorkshire Engine Company and Clayton Equipment Company. A total of 44 units were produced and they were principally employed on freight traffic for British Rail, reaching a maximum speed of 60 mph.
