The Heljan model represents a British Rail Class 15 diesel‑electric locomotive, number D8235, in British Railways green livery with full yellow end panels. The model is finished to a pristine standard and is ready for use on DCC layouts via an 8‑pin socket.

It is supplied in OO gauge, with a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement and power pickup from all wheels. The locomotive features NEM / tension‑lock couplings, a minimum curve of 1st radius (371 mm) and a maximum speed of 60 mph. The prototype was built between 1957 and 1961, with a total of 44 units produced, and was operated by British Railways. Manufacturing was undertaken by British Thomson Houston at the Yorkshire Engine Company (Batch 1) and at Clayton Equipment Co (Batch 2). The model bears the manufacturer part number 1506 and depicts the late crest period of British Railways.
