Accurascale Chaldron Wagon Seaham Harbour â Pack M is a dieâcast model of a preâgrouping 4âwheel chaldron wagon. The livery represents Seaham Harbour and the design traces its origins to a midâ17thâcentury prototype, with the original wagons built around 1820 by a variety of manufacturers. The model is identified by the manufacturer part number ACC2812 and depicts a wagon that would have been used by numerous railways and industrial sites before the grouping era.
The pack contains three 4âton âBlack Waggonsâ in three different body styles, each marked with a number taken from the 1950s era â 11, 39 and 18. Every wagon in the pack is based on photographic evidence and colliery records, and the pack is themed after the Seaham Dock Co. Some packs may contain a single style, while others combine styles that historically operated together.
Key specifications include a dieâcast metal chassis with a plastic body weighing 9âŻg unloaded, a minimum radius curve of 371âŻmm (first radius setâtrack), and five body designs covering the period 1840 to 1978. The wagons feature three wheelâspoke types, three braking arrangements (including the Londonderry clasp brake), and three bangâboard configurations. Removable âgreedy boardsâ can be fitted to increase coal loading on the Shildon Works version. Detail parts are rendered in eroded metal or plastic, and the wagons are coupled with a fine chain using neodymium magnetic heads and prototypical cotterâpin couplings; two extra magnetic couplings are supplied for use with locomotives or additional rolling stock. Artwork accurately reproduces colliery markings and numbers, with research assistance from Beamish Living Museum, Bowes Railway and the North Eastern Railway Association.
