Ex-S.C.C National Coal Board Chaldron Pack
Accurascale has released a pack of three OO gauge model wagons, representing Lambton Collieries' (Earl of Durham's Collieries) ex-NER P1 style Chaldron wagons in pre-1896 livery. The pack includes wagons numbered 1833, 1641, and 650, each with a pristine finish. The wagons are designed to operate on minimum radius curves of 1st radius track, and are suitable for modelling pioneering-era railway scenes.
The models are constructed from a die-cast metal chassis with a plastic body, and weigh 9g unloaded. They feature a range of details, including eroded metal and plastic parts, scale width wire handrails, and metal pin jaw couplings. The wagons are connected via an all-new link fine chain with Neodymium magnetic heads, and two extra NEM-fitted magnetic couplings are supplied to allow for fitting to locomotives and/or additional rolling stock.
The Accurascale Chaldron wagons are part of a larger range of five different body designs, covering a time period from 1840 to 1978, and feature three styles of wheel design, braking arrangement, and brake handles. The artwork on the wagons is based on actual photographic evidence and colliery records, and the models have been researched in conjunction with organisations such as the Beamish Living Museum, Bowes Railway, and the North Eastern Railway Association.
