Accurascale North Eastern Railway Chaldron â Pack L is a 4âwheel, dieâcast metal chassis model with a plastic body, representing a North Eastern Railway (NER) 4T chaldron from the pioneering era. The model is built to a 00 gauge (4 mm) scale and carries the manufacturer part number ACC2811.
The pack contains three individual wagons, each painted in NER livery and numbered 5723, 3399 and 3374. All three wagons are depicted as circa 1890 P1âstyle chaldrons and are presented in a collieryâthemed arrangement based on photographic evidence and colliery records.
Each wagon design has been researched with assistance from Beamish Living Museum, Bowes Railway and the North Eastern Railway Association, ensuring authentic lettering, colliery markings and periodâaccurate details. The models feature five body designs covering the period from 1840 to 1978, three wheelâspoke patterns (split, star and wave) and three brakeâhandle arrangements, including the more complex Londonderry clasp type.
Technical specifications include an unloaded weight of 9âŻg, a minimum curve radius of 371âŻmm (radius 1 setâtrack), scaleâwidth wire handrails, metal pinâjaw couplings, wire/etch handbrake levers and removable âgreedy boardsâ on the Shildon Works chaldron for increased coal loading. Eroded metal and plastic detail parts such as grab handles, door pins and safety chains are fitted, and the wagons are coupled with fine chains terminating in neodymium magnetic heads; two extra NEMâfitted magnetic couplings are supplied for use with locomotives or additional rolling stock.
