Accurascale has released a pack of three OO gauge 4T 'Black Waggons' in the livery of Vane-Londonderry Collieries, circa 1960s. The wagons are based on photographic evidence and colliery records, with each pack featuring one of two body styles. The wagons are numbered 12, 1825 and 256, and are finished in a pristine condition.
The wagons are built in die-cast metal with a plastic body, weighing 9g unloaded. They can operate on minimum radius curves of 371mm radius, set-track. The wagons are part of a larger series of five different body designs, covering a period from 1840 to 1978. Three types of wheel design are included, as well as three braking arrangements and brake handles. The wagons also feature 'bang-boards' and 'greedy boards', which are removable horizontal extensions to the body.
Additional details include scale width wire handrails, metal pin jaw coupling, wire/etch handbrake levers, and eroded metal/plastic detail parts. The wagons are connected using a fine chain with Neodymium magnetic heads and cotter pin coupling. Two extra NEM fitted magnetic couplings are supplied with each pack, allowing for fitting to locomotives and additional rolling stock. The artwork on the wagons features authentic colliery markings and numbers, based on actual photographic evidence where possible. Research assistance was provided by the Beamish Living Museum, Bowes Railway and the North Eastern Railway Association.
