Ex-S.C.C National Coal Board Chaldron Pack
Accurascale has released a new pack of three coal wagons, designed to represent those used by the Pontop and Jarrow Railway in the early 20th century. The pack includes two Chaldron-style wagons with ex-NER P1 lettering, circa 1910, and one S&DR-style Chaldron wagon with pre-1932 lettering.
The wagons are built to OO gauge and feature a minimum radius curve of 1:1. The models are made from die-cast metal chassis with plastic bodies, weighing 9g unloaded. They operate on curves with a radius of 371mm, which is the first radius set-track.
Each wagon in the pack is individually numbered, with the running numbers 405, 460, and 92. The wagons are designed to be representative of coal wagons used during the pioneering era of railways.
The Accurascale wagons feature a range of details, including eroded metal and plastic parts, scale width wire handrails, and metal pin jaw couplings. The wagons are connected via a link fine chain with Neodymium magnetic heads and prototypical cotter pin coupling. Two extra NEM fitted magnetic couplings are also supplied with the pack to allow for fitting to locomotives and additional rolling stock.
The artwork on the wagons features authentic colliery markings and numbers, accurate to the time period modelled and based on actual photographic evidence where possible. Research assistance was provided by the Beamish Living Museum, Bowes Railway, and the North Eastern Railway Association.
