Rapido GWR 45xx No.4561 Great Western Green (preserved 1990s condition) is a highly detailed 1:76 (OO gauge) model locomotive. The kit represents the GWR 45xx “Small Prairie” 2‑6‑2T as it appeared in preservation, with a tapered chimney, superheated boiler, long smokebox, outside steam pipes, steel cab roof with portholes and late‑era tank fittings. The model carries the DCC Sound status and includes a Next18 decoder socket, factory‑fitted speakers, NEM 362 coupler pockets, sprung buffers and a MoPower Stay‑Alive capacitor.
Key operational features are a smooth‑running mechanism, dynamic firebox flicker with a fire‑draw effect, and a full set of period‑accurate details such as 14‑spoke large‑boss wheels, curved running board with Mk3 bunker, parallel buffers, ATC equipment and additional rivets on the side tanks. The locomotive comes with a factory‑installed DCC decoder and is ready for sound‑enhanced running on modern digital layouts.
The 45xx class was introduced by the Great Western Railway in 1904 and rebuilt with larger 4 ft 7½ in wheels from 1906, allowing speeds of around 60 mph. Throughout their service life the locomotives received numerous improvements, including superheating, outside steam pipes and enlarged bunkers. Several members survived into preservation, and this model reflects the locomotive as it would have appeared on the preserved railways in the 1990s.
