Rapido Trains UK offers a 1:76 scale (OO gauge) model of Great Western Railway 45xx class locomotive No 4555 in the preserved 1960s green livery. The product carries the manufacturer part number 951610 and is fitted with DCC Sound, a Next18 decoder socket, factory‑installed speakers and MoPower Stay‑Alive circuitry to ensure continuous operation.
The model replicates numerous external details of the original tank engine, including a tapered chimney, superheated boiler with long smokebox and late oil pipe cover, outside steam pipes, tall safety‑valve cover, curved running board with Mk 3 bunker and fender, 14‑spoke wheels with crescent‑shaped weights, steel cab roof with straight rainstrips, late rocker‑arm covers, sandboxes, parallel buffers, a tall front spring cover and ATC equipment. Additional features are sprung buffers, NEM 362 coupler pockets and a dynamic firebox flicker effect supplied by the DCC decoder.
Historically the GWR 45xx class were introduced in 1904 as the “Small Prairie” tanks; they were later rebuilt with larger wheels and superheated boilers to achieve speeds of up to 60 mph. No 4555, the first locomotive of the Collett batch, operated on British Railways until 1963 and was preserved in 1965, later appearing on the Dart Valley Railway and the Paignton & Dartmouth Steam Railway under the name Warrior.
The Rapido model is highly detailed, includes a painted brass number plate appropriate to the preserved version and is supplied in a detail bag for further refinement. It is marketed as a smooth‑running, sound‑enabled addition to any British railway layout representing the period of the “Big Four” (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).
