Rapido GWR 45xx No.4512 is a highly detailed, 1:76 scale (OO gauge) model of a Great Western Railway 45xx class 2‑6‑2T locomotive, presented in wartime green livery as it would have appeared in the 1940s. The model carries DCC status DCC 18, manufacturer part number 951105 and represents the “Big Four” era of British railways (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR).

The 45xx class originated as an evolution of the earlier 44xx “Small Prairie” tanks, introduced by GWR in 1904. Revised with larger 4 ft 7½ in wheels in 1906, the class was renumbered 4500‑4529 in 1912 and subsequently built in several batches at Swindon, incorporating superheated boilers, outside steam pipes and extended bunkers. The locomotives remained in service through the grouping period and British Railways, with the last examples withdrawn in 1964.

Key modelling features include a tapered chimney, superheated boiler with long smokebox, outside steam pipes, tall safety‑valve cover with top feed and an extended straight running board with Mk 3 bunker and fender. The cab has a steel roof with peaked rainstrips, portholes plated over and side shutters. Wheels are 14‑spoke small‑boss types with crescent‑shaped weights, and the locomotive is fitted with early rocker‑arm covers, early sandboxes, parallel buffers, tall front spring cover, ATC equipment and a central boiler handrail.

The model incorporates a Next18 DCC decoder socket, factory‑fitted speakers, sprung buffers, MoPower Stay‑Alive capacitor, NEM 362 coupler pockets and a smooth‑running mechanism with dynamic firebox flicker and fire‑draw effect. A painted brass number plate is supplied in the detail bag, and the locomotive is available in several historically accurate liveries, including the preserved No. 4555 appearance from 1965‑1969.

The package is supplied ready for operation in a standard OO gauge layout, with all components pre‑assembled and the DCC decoder pre‑installed, allowing immediate use on any compatible DCC system.
