Manufacturer description

This 4-wheeled coach is a representation of the many which served on the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Small coaches such as this four-wheeled coach proved especially good at branch line work where their small size enabled the traversing of tight radius curves, whilst lower passenger numbers meant their small size was more acceptable and enabled trains to be hauled by smaller engines.

This LNWR coach is modelled as having step boards to enable access at stations with low platforms and oil lamp lighting.

Hornby LNWR 4‑Wheel Coach Passenger Brake, running number 9645, is an OO gauge model finished in pristine condition. The coach is painted red, measures 160 mm in length and is capable of negotiating a 2nd radius curve of 438 mm. It is equipped with NEM/Tension‑lock couplings, has no power pickup and carries the LNWR livery.

The model represents a pre‑grouping London and North Western Railway coach that operated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Small four‑wheeled coaches such as this were commonly used on branch lines, where their compact size allowed traversal of tight curves and made them suitable for services with lower passenger numbers, often hauled by smaller engines.

Features include step boards for access at stations with low platforms and oil‑lamp lighting. The coach type is listed as a London & North Western Railway 4‑Wheel, designed by the LNWR and supplied under manufacturer part number R40076.
