Manufacturer description

This four wheeled coach is a representation of the hundreds which served on the GWR from the Victorian era onwards.

Four wheeled coaches proved especially good at branch line work where their small size enabled the traversing of tight radius curves, whilst lower passenger numbers meant their small size was more acceptable and enabled trains to be hauled by smaller engines. This GWR coach is modelled as having step boards to enable access at stations with low platforms and gas lighting.

Hornby Great Western Railway 4‑wheel coach, brake third class, running number 301, is an OO gauge model measuring 135 mm in length. The coach is finished in a pristine chocolate and cream livery with a brown base colour, and is supplied with a NEM/tension‑lock coupling but no power pickup. It carries the manufacturer part number R40067.

The model represents a pre‑grouping GWR coach, typical of the Victorian era and later, designed for branch‑line work where tight‑radius curves (minimum 438 mm, 2nd radius) and lower passenger numbers required a compact four‑wheel design. Features include step boards for low‑platform access and period‑accurate gas lighting.
