Manufacturer description

This Six wheeled coach is a representation of the many which served on the London and North Western Railway (LNWR) in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Small coaches such as this six wheeled coach proved especially good at branch line work where their small size enabled the traversing of tight radius curves, whilst lower passenger numbers meant their small size was more acceptable and enabled trains to be hauled by smaller engines.

This LNWR coach is modelled as having step boards to enable access at stations with low platforms and oil lamp lighting.

Hornby LNWR 6‑Wheel Coach, 3rd Class, 4671 – Era 2 is a OO‑scale model of a London and North Western Railway (LNWR) six‑wheel passenger carriage from the pre‑grouping period. The coach is finished in a pristine red livery representing LNWR colours and carries the running number 4671.

The model measures 160 mm in length and is designed to negotiate a minimum curve of 2nd radius (438 mm). It has no power pickup and is fitted with NEM/Tension‑lock couplings. The coach is supplied with step boards for access to low platforms and features oil‑lamp lighting as originally fitted.

Manufactured by Hornby, the part number is R40074A. The coach is intended to depict the small, branch‑line vehicles that were used on the LNWR in the late‑19th and early‑20th centuries, where their compact size allowed operation on tight curves and with modest passenger loads, often being hauled by smaller locomotives.
