Manufacturer description

This four wheeled coach is a representation of the hundreds which served on the GWR from the Victorian era onwards.

Four wheeled coaches proved especially good at branch line work where their small size enabled the traversing of tight radius curves, whilst lower passenger numbers meant their small size was more acceptable and enabled trains to be hauled by smaller engines.

This GWR coach is modelled as having step boards to enable access at stations with low platforms and gas lighting.

Hornby Great Western Railway 4‑wheel first‑class coach, running number 143, is an OO gauge model. It is finished in a chocolate and cream livery, with a pristine brown paintwork, and measures 135 mm in length. The model represents a pre‑grouping period vehicle and is supplied as part number R40065.

The coach is designed with step boards for use at stations with low platforms and includes period‑correct gas lighting. Its small size makes it suitable for branch‑line operation, where tight radius curves of 438 mm (2nd radius) were common and lower passenger numbers allowed use of lighter rolling stock.

The vehicle has no power pickup and is fitted with DCC sound. Coupling is provided by NEM and tension‑lock types. It is intended for operation by the Great Western Railway and is supplied in a pristine finish.
