The Bachmann Class 04 shunter D2228 is an OO gauge (1:76) model of a British Rail diesel‑mechanical locomotive. It represents a unit built during the late crest period of British Railways and carries the running number D2228. The model measures 108 mm in length and is equipped with a plastic and metal chassis, NEM pocket couplings and a tension‑lock coupling system.
The prototype Class 04 was produced between 1952 and 1962, with a total of 144 built. It featured a 0‑6‑0 wheel arrangement, diesel‑mechanical transmission and was employed for shunting duties on the British Rail network as well as on industrial lines such as those of the Central Electricity Generating Board and the National Coal Board. The locomotive remained in service until 1971 and was capable of a tractive effort of up to 16,850 lbf.
