Accurascale Class 31/1 31248 – British Rail Blue diesel locomotive, OO gauge (1:76.2) on 16.5 mm track. The model represents a Class 31 / English Electric Type 2, built by Brush Traction between 1957 and 1962, and is supplied in pristine condition with a 21‑pin DCC socket.

The locomotive is finished in British Rail blue with a pristine exterior, accurate etched metal and plastic detail parts, and a heavy die‑cast metal chassis. It features an A1A‑A1A wheel arrangement, RP25‑110 profile wheels, and all‑wheel power pickup. The minimum curve radius is 438 mm (radius 2 on set track). Scale‑accurate handrails, grab handles, steps, wipers and a pre‑painted nameplate are included, along with fully sprung buffers and kinetic NEM coupler mounts with tension‑lock couplers.

The model is DCC ready and incorporates a PowerPack supercapacitor stay‑alive system that provides uninterrupted power, flicker‑free lighting and continuous sound. A factory‑installed ESU LokSound V5 sound decoder with large EM2‑style and sugarcube speakers delivers realistic exhaust and engine noises, and a wheel‑flange squeal sensor automatically adds squeal on the sound programme. The high‑quality 5‑pole motor with two large flywheels, helical gearbox and appropriate gearing allow a scale top speed of 90 mph (145 km/h), with outer bogie axles driven and all‑wheel pickup.

Lighting is fully detailed with directional LEDs for day and night operation, switchable red and white marker lights, separate cab illumination and an illuminated driver’s desk that auto‑switches on movement. The model also includes a fully working, scale‑speed roof fan that operates on both DC and DCC, with fan speed programmed to match the locomotive’s speed on DCC control.
