Rapido Trains UK has announced a new range of OO gauge models of the Highland Railway's Loch Class 4-4-0 locomotives. The models will be available in various liveries, from pre-grouping to British Railways, and will feature a range of detailing variants.
The Loch Class was a design by David Jones, the Highland Railway's Locomotive Superintendent, in the late 19th century. The class of 18 locomotives was built between 1896 and 1897, with a further three locos added during World War One. The Lochs were designed to haul passenger trains over the Highland Railway's network, including the challenging route over Slochd Summit.
The models will feature a range of detailing options, including different chimneys, domes, and safety valves, as well as a selection of tender variations. The detailing bag will include additional items such as screw link couplings, steam heating pipes, and etched number plates.
Each model will come with a smooth-running mechanism, three factory-installed speakers, and a 21-pin DCC decoder socket. The models will be available in 1:76 scale, with a recommended operating radius of 438mm or greater.
The Loch Class locomotives were known for their reliability and were used by the Highland Railway and later the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. The models will be a welcome addition to the OO gauge market, offering modellers a highly detailed and accurate representation of these historic locomotives.
