The Rapido Trains UK OO Gauge Highland Railway Loch Class 4-4-0 model range represents the Dübs & Co. built locomotives of this class. The Highland Railway's Locomotive Superintendent, David Jones, designed the Loch Class as a passenger locomotive to traverse the undulating landscape of the Inverness to Perth line. The class was built between 1896 and 1897, with 18 locomotives being constructed, and were named after inland Scottish lochs.
The Loch Class was a powerful design, producing 17,070 lbs of tractive effort, and was used for a variety of services, including local passenger and branchline work. The class was later inherited by the LMS in 1923, who made alterations to some of the locomotives, including the installation of new boilers on ten of the original Dübs & Co. locos. The last of the class was withdrawn in 1950, but none of the locomotives were preserved.
The Rapido Trains UK model range includes a variety of liveries, from pre-grouping to BR days, as well as a 'What if' Highland Railway Yellow livery. The models feature a range of detailing variants, including different chimneys, domes, safety valves, smoke boxes, doors and darts, as well as other small detail variants. The models are equipped with a smooth-running mechanism, three factory-installed speakers, NEM coupler pockets, an ESU 21-pin decoder socket, tender pickups, and firebox flicker with a dynamic fire draw effect.
