Dapol is set to release a range of OO gauge GWR Toplight Mainline City coaches, featuring in GWR brown livery and designed to replicate the classic coaches built by Swindon Works in the 1920s. The coaches were originally used for commuter traffic from Reading and Windsor into the City of London, but were later used on services further afield.

The first batch of coaches was ordered in 1915, although they were not built until 1920 due to the First World War. A further batch was completed in 1921. The coaches were notable for being 7 inches lower than other contemporary carriages of the time, allowing them to operate on the London Underground system. During World War II, the service was curtailed, but the coaches continued in service after the war.

In 1958, two brake third coaches and one all third coach were converted for use on a miners' service in South Wales. The main changes included the addition of an extra window and a gong. By 1957, the coaches had been withdrawn from revenue-earning service.

The Dapol model features highly accurate injection moulded bodies, separate metal door and commode handles, and wire end handrails. The coaches will also have a highly detailed chassis, vacuum tanks, battery boxes, and brake linkages. The model will be available in all third, composite, and brake third configurations, and will be compatible with the recently released Dapol 61xx Prairie 2-6-2 locomotive.

The technical specification of the model includes kinematic couplings with NEM pockets, sprung metal buffers, internal lighting, and directional tail lamps. The model can be optionally fitted with a DCC decoder, and features a heavy diecast chassis and 9ft bogie bolster with dicast side frames and split axles for electrical pick up.
