The model features a highly accurate injection moulded body, with bolection window mouldings and frosted Toplight windows. It is designed to be a companion piece to the Dapol 61xx Prairie 2-6-2 locomotive.

The coaches were originally built at Swindon Works in 1920 and 1921, with a total of six sets of coaches produced. They were designed to operate on the Metropolitan Underground system, with a lower profile to allow them to pass through London Underground tunnels. The coaches saw service on commuter lines from Reading and Windsor into the City of London, before being withdrawn in the 1950s.

It can negotiate R2 radius curves and is capable of being DCC fitted with a six pin decoder. The model's chassis is made from heavy diecast metal, and it features a 9ft bogie bolster with dicast side frames and split axles for electrical pickup.

The model is part of a range of coaches that includes an all third, composite, and brake third coaches, and is designed to be a faithful representation of the original GWR Toplight Mainline City coaches.
