Accurascale has announced a new OO scale model of the BR Class 89 'Badger' electric locomotive. This limited edition model is based on the Class 92 platform and features a highly-detailed design, with a die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile wheels, and separately-applied etched metal and plastic detail parts.

The model is DCC ready, with a PowerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power, and features a five-pole motor with two flywheels for high-performance traction. It also includes a metal helical gearbox and all-wheel drive, allowing it to achieve a minimum scale top speed of 125 mph.

The model features a scale-sized Brecknall-Willis High Speed pantograph that can be raised and lowered under DCC control, as well as a Hall sensor for a flange squeal effect on DCC sound-fitted models. The model also includes a customised Dual-Speaker Technology system with a large 'Accurathrash' style bass speaker and a smaller 'iphone' style cube for higher frequencies.

The Class 89 model represents the locomotive in its GNER (Gold Lettering) livery, with a minimum radius curve of 438mm (2nd Radius Set-track). It includes a separately-switched cab lighting and illuminated driver's desk, as well as directionally-controlled lighting and switchable red and white marker lights.

The BR Class 89 'Badger' was a unique prototype electric locomotive designed by Brush Traction and constructed by British Rail Engineering Ltd at Crewe Works in 1986. Although it was not put into service as intended, it was used as a test bed on the East and West Coast routes before being delivered in the InterCity Executive scheme and later repainted in Swallow livery. It was preserved and restored, and is currently being restored to operational condition by the AC Locomotive Group, with plans to return it to the national network.
