The Accurascale Class 89 model is a limited edition OO scale model of the BR Class 89 'Badger' prototype electric locomotive. The model is based on Accurascale's Class 92 platform and features a highly-detailed design with a die-cast metal chassis and RP25-110 profile OO wheels. The model is available in InterCity livery and is DCC ready, with a minimum radius of 438mm recommended.
The model features a number of high-end details, including a scale-sized Brecknall-Willis High Speed pantograph, a powerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power, and a customised Dual-Speaker Technology system. The model also features a hall sensor for a flange squeal effect and directional lighting, DC and DCC.
The real-life Class 89 was designed by Brush Traction and constructed by British Rail Engineering Ltd at Crewe Works in 1986. The locomotive was used as a test bed between 1986 and 1988 and eventually settled into service working between Kings Cross and Leeds. The locomotive was repainted and renamed several times during its service life, including being painted in the new Swallow livery and later in GNER dark blue.
The Class 89 was eventually purchased for preservation and is currently being restored to operational condition by the AC Locomotive Group. The group has announced a partnership with Locomotive Services Ltd to fund the final stages of the rebuild, which will see the locomotive join LSL's fleet of main line certified electric locomotives for a period of five years.
