Accurascale has announced a limited edition OO/4mm scale model of the BR Class 89 'Badger' electric locomotive. The model features a highly-detailed design with die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile wheels, and separately-applied etched metal and plastic detail parts. The locomotive is based on the ground-breaking Class 92 platform and has a pantograph that can be raised or lowered under DC or DCC control.

The model is available in GNER livery with white lettering and features a range of detailed components, including a scale-sized Brecknall-Willis High Speed pantograph, a powerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power, and a customised Dual-Speaker Technology sound system. The locomotive is DCC ready with a 21-Pin MTX socket or factory-fitted DCC sound options.

The Class 89 was designed by Brush Traction and constructed by British Rail Engineering Ltd at Crewe Works in 1986. The prototype locomotive was used as a test bed between 1986 and 1988 and later entered service on the East and West Coast routes. It was repainted in the InterCity Executive scheme and later wore a range of liveries before being acquired by GNER in 1997.

The model is designed to operate on minimum radius curves of 438mm (2nd radius set-track) and features all-wheel powered six-axle bogies. The locomotive has a highly detailed underframe tank and features full sprung metal buffers and bufferplate. The model is available in a limited edition and features a range of deluxe and DCC features.

The Class 89's history is complex, having been used as a test bed, entered service, and been repainted in various liveries. It was eventually acquired by the AC Locomotive Group and is currently undergoing restoration to return it to operational condition. The model is a highly detailed representation of this unique locomotive and is a must-have for any OO/4mm scale model railway enthusiast.
