Accurascale has announced a new OO scale model of the BR Class 89 'Badger' electric locomotive in the GNER livery.

The model is limited to a small production run and is available exclusively through Rails of Sheffield. The locomotive is DCC ready with a minimum radius of curve of 438mm and all-wheel powered six-axle bogies.

The model features a highly detailed representation of the Class 89, including a die-cast metal chassis, RP25-110 profile OO wheels, and separately-applied etched metal and plastic detail parts. The pantograph is also included and can be raised or lowered under DC or DCC control.

The model includes a range of deluxe features, including a scale-sized Brecknall-Willis High Speed pantograph, a powerPack capacitor, and a customised dual-speaker system with a large bass speaker and a smaller cube for higher frequencies. The model is also DCC ready with a powerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power.

The Class 89 was a unique locomotive designed by Brush Traction and constructed by British Rail Engineering Ltd at Crewe Works in 1986. The prototype was used as a test bed between 1986 and 1988 and was later sold to GNER in 1997. The locomotive was used on Kings Cross to Leeds and Bradford trains before being withdrawn in 2001 and eventually joining the AC Locomotive Group's preserved fleet.

The Class 89's story does not end there, as the ACLG is currently restoring the locomotive to operational condition with plans to fit it with the necessary equipment for a return to the national network. The project is currently being funded by Locomotive Services Ltd and the locomotive is expected to join their fleet of main line certified electric locomotives for a period of five years.
