Accurascale is producing a limited edition OO scale model of the Class 89 locomotive, number 89001 'Avocet', in InterCity Swallow livery. The model is based on the company's Class 92 platform and features all-wheel powered six-axle bogies and a pantograph that can be raised or lowered under DC or DCC control.

The model has a die-cast metal chassis and RP25-110 profile OO wheels, with separately-applied etched metal and plastic detail parts. It also features a scale width wire handrail, full underframe tank detail, and fully sprung metal buffers and bufferplate. The model is DCC ready with a PowerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power and features a five-pole motor with two flywheels and a metal helical gearbox for maximum performance.

The model includes a range of lighting features, including directional lighting, switchable red and white marker lights, and separately switched cab lighting. It is also available with a range of sound options, including customised Dual-Speaker Technology and a Hall sensor for flange squeal effect.

The Class 89 was a unique prototype locomotive designed by Brush Traction and constructed by British Rail Engineering Ltd at Crewe Works in 1986. It was used as a test bed between 1986 and 1988 and was later repainted in the InterCity Swallow livery and named 'Avocet' in December 1988. The locomotive has had a varied history, including being preserved, repainted, and returned to operation with different operators.

The model is a highly-detailed representation of the Class 89 locomotive and is available in limited quantities. It features a range of accurate details, including a scale-sized Brecknall-Willis High Speed pantograph and a fully detailed lighting pack. The model is suitable for use on a minimum radius of 438mm (2nd Radius Set-track) and is designed for operation on DC or DCC layouts.
