Manufacturer description
A more powerful development of Class 26 with a 1,250hp engine and four-character headcode panel in place of the old disc system. Initially distributed across the Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions, from the late-1960s they were concentrated in Scotland and continued in passenger and freight service until 1987.

The model represents locomotive number 5357, which was built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. at Smethwick between 1961 and 1962. A total of 68 Class 27 locomotives were built, with this particular model accurately capturing the distinctive characteristics of the class.
Key features of the model include directional lighting, NEM couplings, sprung buffers, and a detailed exterior with interior cab details. The model is suitable for use on 2nd radius curves of 438mm or greater and has a maximum speed of 90mph.
