Manufacturer description

A more powerful development of Class 26 with a 1,250hp engine and four-character headcode panel in place of the old disc system. Initially distributed across the Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions, from the late-1960s they were concentrated in Scotland and continued in passenger and freight service until 1987.

Heljan produce a 200 mm OO gauge model of British Rail Class 27 locomotive number 5370. The model is finished in BR green with a late crest and full yellow ends and does not include boiler tanks. It represents a diesel‑powered Bo‑Bo locomotive built between 1961 and 1962, with a maximum speed of 90 mph. The original class was operated by British Railways on the London Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions for both freight and passenger traffic until withdrawal in 1987. A total of 68 examples were built.

The model is DCC ready with an 8‑pin socket (RoS‑8D) and all wheels provide power pickup. It includes working lights, NEM couplings, sprung buffers, and detailed exterior and interior cab fittings. The locomotive is supplied with a standard 8‑pin decoder blank; sound decoders are not fitted and must be purchased separately, with a re‑blowing service available if required.

Key specifications: gauge OO, length 200 mm, coupling NEM, minimum curve radius 2nd radius (438 mm), directional lighting, and a pristine finish. The manufacturer part number is 2713.
