Heljan Class 27 001 is a 200 mm long OO‑scale model of a British Rail diesel locomotive in BR green with full yellow ends. The kit represents the original BR Class 27 (number 27001) built by Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. between 1961 and 1962, of which 69 were produced. It is painted in a heavily weathered finish and carries the late crest livery.

The locomotive is DCC‑ready with an 8‑pin socket (compatible with RailConnect decoder RoS‑8D) and features working direction lights, power pickup from all wheels, NEM couplings, sprung buffers and both exterior and interior cab detailing. The model runs on a minimum 2nd‑radius curve of 438 mm and uses a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement with a maximum speed of 90 mph.

Key specifications include a diesel motive power source, a 1 250 hp engine representation, and a four‑character headcode panel in place of the original disc system. The prototype served freight and passenger traffic on the London Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions until withdrawal in 1987.

At present the model does not include a ready‑to‑install sound decoder; customers wishing sound must purchase a blank ESU 8‑pin decoder and arrange a re‑blowing service separately. The product is supplied with the part number 2730.
