Class Profile: A more powerful development of Class 26 with a 1,250hp engine and four-character headcode panel in place of the old disc system. Initially distributed across the Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions, from the late-1960s they were concentrated in Scotland and continued in passenger and freight service until 1987.
