Class Profile: A more powerful development of Class 26 with a 1,250hp engine and four-character headcode panel in place of the old disc system. Initially distributed across the Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions, from the late-1960s they were concentrated in Scotland and continued in passenger and freight service until 1987.

Heljan Class 27 029 is a OO‑scale model of a British Rail diesel locomotive in the original BR blue livery, featuring the Highland Rail emblem. The model is DCC ready with an 8‑pin socket and includes directional lighting, power pickup from all wheels, and NEM couplings. It represents a locomotive built between 1961 and 1962, originally numbered 27029, with a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement, a maximum speed of 90 mph and a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (2nd radius). The prototype, built by Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co., was part of the Class 27 fleet of 68 units, serving mixed‑traffic duties on the London Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions from 1961 to 1987.

The model is supplied in a pristine finish and carries the manufacturer part number 2718. It can be fitted with a suitable 8‑pin DCC decoder (RAILS CONNECT DECODER 8‑pin RoS‑8D) either by the purchaser or via Heljan’s fitting service, which includes the decoder cost. Sound fitting is not currently offered; a blank ESU decoder and a re‑blowing service are required for sound installation.
