The locomotive is DCC ready, featuring an 8‑pin socket, working directional lights, NEM couplings and sprung buffers. The model includes exterior detailing and an interior cab with a four‑character headcode panel, reflecting the real locomotive’s 1,250 hp engine introduced in 1961‑1962.

Class 27 units were constructed by Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co., Smethwick, with a total of 69 built. They operated on the London Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions, serving both freight and passenger traffic at a maximum speed of 90 mph until withdrawal in 1987.
