A more powerful development of Class 26 with a 1,250hp engine and four-character headcode panel in place of the old disc system. Initially distributed across the Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions, from the late-1960s they were concentrated in Scotland and continued in passenger and freight service until 1987.

Heljan Class 27 – D5369 (BR green, small yellow headcode panel) V3 diesel locomotive is a ready‑to‑run OO gauge model. It features an 8‑pin DCC socket, working lights, NEM couplings and sprung buffers, and powers its wheels via all‑wheel pickup. The locomotive measures 200 mm in length and can negotiate a minimum curve radius of 438 mm (2nd radius).

The model is finished in BR green livery with the late crest, and carries the running number D5369. It is fitted with directional lighting and retains the Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement of the prototype. The locomotive is built to represent the British Rail Class 27 that operated from 1961 to 1987, primarily on the London Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions for both freight and passenger traffic.

Technical details of the prototype include a 1 250 hp diesel engine, a four‑character headcode panel, and a top speed of 90 mph. A total of 68 Class 27 units were built by Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co, Smethwick between 1961 and 1962, and they remained in service until 1987.
