Manufacturer description

A more powerful development of Class 26 with a 1,250hp engine and four-character headcode panel in place of the old disc system. Initially distributed across the Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions, from the late-1960s they were concentrated in Scotland and continued in passenger and freight service until 1987.

Heljan Class 27 104 BR Blue (Full Yellow Ends) is a 2 mm OO gauge diesel locomotive model, finished in British Rail blue with full yellow end panels. It reproduces a locomotive built between 1961 and 1962 by the Birmingham Railway Carriage & Wagon Co. in Smethwick, which carried the running number 27104 and operated on the London Midland, North Eastern and Scottish regions for both freight and passenger traffic, achieving a maximum speed of 90 mph.

The model measures 200 mm in length, has a Bo‑Bo wheel arrangement, and uses NEM couplings with sprung buffers. Power is taken from all wheels and directional lighting is provided. It is DCC ready with an 8‑pin socket (RoS‑8D) and includes working external lights and interior cab details.

Technical specifications indicate a 1 250 hp engine and a four‑character headcode panel, reflecting the prototype’s more powerful development of the Class 26. The prototype fleet comprised 69 units, built from 1961 to 1962 and withdrawn from service in 1987.
