73965 – GBRf, Current

73965 entered GBRf service in 2015 alongside 73964. This was completed alongside some of the Phase two locomotives and as such has some paint differences to the first three, notably the grilles and the area above the cab windows. Originally not named, this locomotive was given the name “Des o Brien” in memory of a GBRf colleague who passed away from Cancer. Notably the naming took place at the same time, on the opposite end of the train to former Accurascale Exclusive 66769 “Paul Taylor”. Our model represents the locomotive in its current condition with name, still carrying early “Brush” blue paint, cab front bracket and current GBRf branding.

Accurascale Class 73 – GBRf (Current) – 73965 “Des o Brien” is a motorised DCC‑controlled working fan model (part number ACC3328) representing British railway locomotive number 73965 in its present livery. The model is supplied in the GBRf corporate colour scheme and includes the cab front bracket and current GBRf branding.

The prototype entered GBRf service in 2015 as part of the early privatisation period, arriving together with locomotive 73964. It belongs to the Phase two batch of Class 73s, which feature subtle paint differences from the first three units, notably in the grille detailing and the area above the cab windows. The model depicts the locomotive in its early “Brush” blue paint finish.

Originally delivered without a name, the locomotive was later named “Des o Brien” in memory of a GBRf employee who died of cancer. The naming ceremony took place at the opposite end of the train from the former Accurascale exclusive locomotive 66769 “Paul Taylor”. The model reflects this naming and the locomotive’s current condition.
