Manufacturer description

Glendower was one of the 93 locomotives completed by Hunslet in the years after the war. Works number 3810 was completed in 1954 and sold directly to the NCB. This locomotive was moved directly to the coalfields of South Wales and gained the name “Glendower”. It was withdrawn from Hafodyrynys, Crumlin in 1973. The engine was purchased from the NCB and moved to the South Devon Railway at Buckfastleigh in 1978. It returned to traffic and proved a valuable member of the working fleet until its last boiler ticket expired in 1995. It is still at Buckfastleigh, cosmetically restored in non-operational condition. Glendower recreates a typical post war Austerity in unmodified condition.

The Accurascale Hunslet 'Austerity' 0-6-0 Saddle Tank locomotive is a detailed and accurate model of a British Railways locomotive from the post-war era. The model is designed to represent the Hunslet Austerity class, which was built in large numbers during the 1940s and 1950s for use by the War Department and later by the National Coal Board.

The model features a highly detailed 0-6-0ST design with a die-cast metal chassis and pickups to all wheels. It is powered by a coreless motor with a flywheel for maximum performance and slow-speed running. The locomotive is equipped with a Next18 DCC system, which allows for smooth and quiet operation.

The model is designed to be highly versatile, with the ability to represent a range of different modifications and liveries. The tooling suite is designed to cover most of the modifications made to the Austerity class over the years, including those made by the NCB and Hunslet.

The model is based on the real locomotive 'Glendower', which was built in 1954 and is now preserved at the South Devon Railway. The Accurascale model is a faithful representation of the locomotive in its post-war condition, with a striking 'desert sand' livery and a highly detailed cab interior.

The Hunslet Austerity class was a highly successful design, with over 485 locomotives built during the 1940s and 1950s. They were used by a range of operators, including the War Department, the National Coal Board, and the LNER. The locomotives were known for their reliability and simplicity, and many survived into preservation.

The model is suitable for use on 00 gauge track, with a minimum radius of 438mm. It is designed to be highly detailed and accurate, with a range of features including etched metal and plastic detail parts, a sliding roof ventilator, and a magnetically removable smokebox door.
