Manufacturer description

This locomotive was one of a batch of 36 Austerities by Hudswell Clarke of Leeds. This particular one was completed in November 1944 and carried the WD number 71498. Purchased by the LNER in June 1946 the locomotive was classified as a J94 and numbered 8025. The distinctive extended bunker was fitted in November 1949 when it was renumbered 68025 and gained the early BR emblem. The locomotive was based at Darlington 51A until withdrawal in 1963. The locomotive did not survive and was cut up shortly after. The model replicates the period after 1949 and carries the extended bunker, smokebox numberplate and additional steps and handrails on the tank

Accurascale has released a new 0-6-0 Saddle Tank locomotive, modelled on the Hunslet 'Austerity' type, in British Railways Early Crest livery as No. 68025. This model features a coreless motor, flywheel, and an on-board stay alive power bank, allowing for smooth and reliable operation, even on imperfect track.

The model is designed to be highly detailed, with a die-cast metal chassis and pickups to all wheels. It is DCC ready and comes with an ESU LokSound V5 sound system, which includes a pre-fitted twin speaker system and a flickering firebox light. The model also features a highly detailed cab interior and a range of etched metal and plastic detail parts.

The Hunslet Austerity is a well-known and instantly recognisable type of locomotive, with over 485 built and around 60 surviving to the present day. The first Austerity was built in 1943, and the design was later adopted by other builders, including Barclay's, Bagnall's, and Vulcan Foundry.

The Austerity was designed to be a heavy shunting locomotive, capable of hauling trains of over 1000 tons on the level and 300 tons on a 1 in 50 grade. The locomotives were originally painted in a striking desert sand colour, but later changed to a dark green colour. Many Austerities were sold or hired to various railways, including the LNER, National Coal Board, and Dutch State Railway.

The model is based on the period after 1949, with the extended bunker, smokebox numberplate, and additional steps and handrails. It is suitable for use on 16.5mm track and has a minimum radius of 438mm. The model weighs around 250g and features a range of detailed features, including brake rigging, scale width wire handrails, and a sliding roof ventilator.
