Glendower was one of the 93 locomotives completed by Hunslet in the years after the war. Works number 3810 was completed in 1954 and sold directly to the NCB. This locomotive was moved directly to the coalfields of South Wales and gained the name “Glendower”. It was withdrawn from Hafodyrynys, Crumlin in 1973. The engine was purchased from the NCB and moved to the South Devon Railway at Buckfastleigh in 1978. It returned to traffic and proved a valuable member of the working fleet until its last boiler ticket expired in 1995. It is still at Buckfastleigh, cosmetically restored in non-operational condition. Glendower recreates a typical post war Austerity in unmodified condition.
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

Accurascale's Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0 Saddle Tank Locomotive, modelled as 'Glendower', is a highly detailed and accurate representation of the real locomotive that was built by Hunslet in 1954. This model is designed to operate on 16.5mm track and features a die-cast metal chassis and pickups to all wheels. It has a coreless motor with a flywheel geared for maximum performance and slow speed running, and is equipped with a powerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power.
The Accurascale Hunslet Austerity has a highly detailed cab interior, including a fully detailed cab interior with twin LED pulsing/steady Firebox glow, and features a range of etched metal and plastic detail parts, including grab handles, steps, pipework, lamp irons and more. The model also features a sliding roof ventilator, etched metal pre-painted name plates and works plates, and fully sprung metal buffers.
The model is designed to represent a typical post-war Austerity locomotive in unmodified condition, and is available with a Next18 DCC ready or ESU LokSound V5 sound fitted, complete with a slot-mounted sound capsule located in the smokebox. The model also features two quality sugar cube speakers to provide the best possible sound.

The Hunslet Austerity was a popular locomotive in its time, with over 485 built and nearly 60 surviving to preservation. The first Austerity steamed at Hunslet's works on 1 January 1943, and was used for shunting and heavy haulage duties during and after World War II. The locomotives were used by a number of different railway companies, including the National Coal Board, and were known for their reliability and simplicity. Some Austerities were also fitted with experimental equipment, including a Giesl ejector multiple blast pipe arrangement and a streamlined blast pipe and chimney.
The Accurascale Hunslet Austerity is a great addition to any model railway layout, and is sure to provide hours of entertainment for modellers.
