Prototype Era
Era 3 (1923 to 1947) The Big Four (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR)
The earliest built Austerity in our launch range, this one was built by the Hunslet engine company, Leeds in Feb 1944, and numbered WD 75101. Acquired by the LNER in July 1946 and classified as J94, this locomotive was one of several to retain its desert sand livery with the addition of LNER numerals. At its first shopping date it would be repainted in the standard LNER black livery of the time. The locomotive would be passed to BR and renumbered 68008 before being finally withdrawn in December 1963. Our model represents a “standard” Austerity, with no modifications fitted.
* Class names often change over the lifespan of a locomotive, so this is not necessarily the class name used by the operator in the period modelled.

Accurascale's Hunslet 'Austerity' 0-6-0 Saddle Tank Locomotive is a highly detailed and accurate model of the real steam locomotive. The model is designed to represent a standard LNER J94, as number 8008, built by Hunslet in 1944. The model features a coreless motor, flywheel, and die-cast metal chassis, ensuring reliable and smooth performance.
The model is DCC ready and can be fitted with an ESU LokSound V5 sound system, which features a pulsing firebox glow and realistic sound effects. The model also features a powerPack capacitor for uninterrupted power and a stay alive feature to prevent the model from losing power when running over imperfect track.
The tooling suite of the model is designed to cover various modifications made to the original Austerity design, allowing modelers to create a range of different versions. The model's body is made from etched metal and plastic, with intricately detailed parts such as grab handles, steps, pipework, and lamp irons.
The Hunslet Austerity is a well-known and iconic steam locomotive, with over 485 built and nearly 60 surviving to the present day. The locomotive's design was influenced by the Ministry of Supply's requirement for a heavy shunting locomotive, and it was used extensively during World War II for shunting and heavy shunting duties.
The locomotive's popularity in preservation has led to many enthusiasts encountering these machines in action over the past 50 years. The Austerity's reliability and simplicity made it a valuable asset for many railways, and it continued to be used until the early 1980s.
The Accurascale model is a highly detailed and accurate representation of this iconic locomotive, and is sure to be a popular addition to any model railway layout. The model's features and specifications make it well-suited for use on 00 gauge tracks, with a minimum radius of 438mm.
