Accurascale has released a new model of the SR D1479 Banana Van, a type of goods wagon used by the Southern Railway during the 1930s. This model is a triple pack, featuring three wagons with individual numbers: s50775, s50788, and s50791.
The model represents the SR D1479 Banana Van in its modified livery from 1936 to March 1941, with a stone colour scheme and SR Standard Brown sole bar and black ironwork. The wagons are built to a scale length of 70mm over the headstocks, with a wheelbase of 40mm, allowing for operation on a minimum radius of 371mm.
The model features a die-cast metal chassis with a plastic body, and weighs 60g per wagon. The wheels are OO gauge, with RP25.110 chemically blackened wheel sets, and blackened brass bearings. The model includes eroded metal, plastic, and wire detail parts, such as handrails, grab handles, and vacuum and steam pipes. The wagons are fitted with turned sprung metal buffers, NEM standard coupler pockets, and narrow tension lock couplers.
Each wagon has individual lettering and codes from real wagons for authenticity, and the accessory bag includes steam/vacuum hoses and screw couplings. The model is suitable for Era 3, which represents the Big Four period of the British railway network, covering the Southern Railway, London, Midland and Scottish Railway, Great Western Railway, and London and North Eastern Railway.
