LNER Class J70 in BR livery with early emblem and full skirts
Rapido MR‑207 is a limited edition OO gauge model of the LNER Class J70 steam locomotive, number 8223. The model reproduces the locomotive as it appeared in the post‑war LNER black livery, complete with full skirts and optional sideplates.
The locomotive is presented in a pristine finish and operates on a 6‑pin DCC socket. It is equipped with a coreless motor, directional lighting and tension‑lock couplings with NEM pockets. The model has sprung buffers, bufferbeam safety chains where appropriate, and interchangeable cowcatchers. Two styles of central lamp and two nose‑end door catch designs are available, along with optional opened or closed nose‑end doors.
The prototype was built in June 1914 at the Great Eastern Railway works in Stratford, designed by James Holden. Twelve examples were produced, numbered 8223, and the class served the Great Eastern Railway before transfer to the London and North Eastern Railway. The locomotive was withdrawn in July 1955 after 41 years in service.
A total of 500 units were produced for Model Rail, each marked with the manufacturer part number MR‑207. The model represents the Big Four era (LNER, LMS, GWR and SR) and is suitable for a minimum radius curve of 371 mm (first radius).
