The British Rail Class 40 is a much-utilized British railway diesel-electric locomotive, that took over duties at the end of the steam era. A total of 200 were built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962. They were numbered D200-D399. They were for a time the pride of the British Rail early diesel fleet. Despite their initial success, by the time the last examples were entering service, they were already being replaced on some top-link duties by more powerful locomotives. As they were slowly relegated from express passenger uses, the type found work on secondary passenger and freight services where they worked for many years. The final locomotives ended regular service in 1985.

KR Models Class 40 40199 EWS Diesel Locomotive – DCC Sound is a ready‑to‑run model featuring DCC sound, interior lighting and a cast chassis. The manufacturer part number is KRM‑40‑OO‑S‑199EWS and it represents the initial privatisation era of British Rail.

The prototype British Rail Class 40 ‘Whistler’ was built by English Electric between 1958 and 1962, with 200 examples numbered D200 to D399. The class entered service at the end of the steam era, later moving from express passenger duties to secondary passenger and freight work before the final units were withdrawn in 1985.

Model details include etched grills, a cab light, fine‑scale detailing and LokSound V5.0 with dual speakers and a cold‑start sound function. The design was produced in consultation with the Class 40 Preservation Society, and the preserved locomotives 40106, 40135 and 40145 are represented in the model range.
